Learn How to Make a Kadomatsu

Let's experience making "Kadomatsu" (a pair of auspicious pine and bamboo decorations placed in front of a house during the New Year period).
This is how it works:
1. cut three 30-40 cm sections of bamboo.
2. cut one end of each section at a sharp angle. (the angle cut should intersect one of the nodes of the bamboo)
3. wash the three pieces of bamboo.
4. bind them together with rope, with the one at the back sticking out the most.
5. wrap one piece of rope three times, near the top, and another five times, near the middle.
6. tie the other in an elaborate way.
7. take off the wire, and place the bundle of bamboo inside a container made from an additional, extra-wide piece of bamboo, with seven wrappings of rope around it.
8. pack the extra space in the big bamboo container with many sprigs of pine and one of plum.
Bring this Kadomatsu back to your accommodation or school office.
