We met one of our interns, Kevin, on March 6, 2015 at Sunnyside kindergarten in Nishijin, Fukuoka, where he has been working since last September. This is what we were talking about:
A: Hello Kevin, nice to meet you here. I heard today is your last day. How was your internship at Sunnyside?
K: It was great. I have learned a lot about child care and how to handle different types of children correctly.
A: What are your plans for the future?
K: I’m staying a few months longer in Japan to travel around. After that, I will go back to Germany to study Japanese and International business administration at university. My dream is to come back to Japan and work here.
A: How much has your Japanese improved compared to when you first came here?
K: At first, I could just say “Konnichiwa”, but now I can have a normal conversation with Japanese people. I did a one-week language course at Asahi Nihongo and then practiced with the children at the kindergarten and my Japanese friends I had met at Izakayas .
A: Why did you choose Fukuoka?
K: I heard that the people in Fukuoka are among the friendliest in Japan and that the local food is really great. I wanted to see it for myself and was not disappointed.
A: Thank you very much for your time Kevin and good luck for your future plans.
K: Thank you.
