Tenjin Station

In case you don’t want to spend all cold and rainy winter days at home playing video games or watching movies, there is an underground alternative right in the center of Fukuoka – the Tenjin Subway Station (天神駅 Tenjin-eki).

Opened in July 1981, the station is located right below Meiji-Street (明治通りMeiji-Dori), and its symbol is five green dots arranged in a circle representing a plum blossom.

The whole station area is an underground shopping mall called Tenjin Chikagai (天神地下街) containing numerous restaurants, snack bars, cafes and shops to fulfill all possible shopping needs.

In addition, the station many exits usually connecting to other department stores in the area, for example PARCO (パルコ) or Tenjin CORE (天神コア).
The station area itself consists of two long underground avenues reaching from the central Tenjin Station to Tenjin Minami Station (天神南駅 Tenjin-Minami-Eki).

You can reach Tenjin Station either via the Airport Line (空港線) or Nanakuma Line (七隈線), exiting at Tenjin Minami station.

The underground shopping mall can be used to transfer between the Airport and Nanakuma Line. The same ticket can be used for both lines by exiting through a special gate and entering the gate of the second line within 120 minutes. Why not use the transfer time to buy some Christmas gifts or enjoy a hot cup of coffee?
For a lot of people, Tenjin Station is the nost important junction. In 2006, the average number of daily passengers was 63,166, making Tenjin the largest subway station on the Airport Line.
We recommend you use your rainy days and transfer time smartly and pay a visit to Tenjin Station.
