Fukuoka zoo and botanical garden

In today’s article we will introduce you to the Fukuoka zoo and botanical garden, a place to explore the Japanese flora and fauna in the heart of Fukuoka. We will list up everything you need to know about it so you can have a fun day watching and learning about various animals and plants.

The Fukuoka zoo (福岡市動植物園), also known as the Fukuoka zoological garden was established in 1953 and is located within the Minami-koen. The garden contains about 1,300 types of outdoor garden plants, mostly common. Its greenhouse contains over 1,200 plant species as well.

Besides plants, the zoo is home to a lot of different animals to learn about. It is divided into 5 continents and features 706 animals in total, representing 168 species, including 57 species of mammals, 88 species of birds, and 23 species of reptiles.

After learning about nature and observing animals, you can take a look at the Fukuoka skyline as well: the panoramic view of Fukuoka city from the Ferris wheel is a great feature of the garden.

The opening times of the zoo and garden are from Tuesday until Friday, from 9am to 5pm.
