Hakata station (博多駅) is one of Fukuoka’s most well known destinations. Before Hakata and Fukuoka we’re fissioned into one city under the name of Fukuoka, Hakata station marked the center of the city of Hakata. Nowadays, Hakata station isn’t the center of the city anymore but it surely is the center for travelers and businessmen, getting in and out of the city. The station was rebuilt in 2011. The main building was torn down and a new, larger station building—as well as office buildings and new platforms—was constructed. The station reconstruction project was initiated specifically for the Shinkansen lines, connecting Kyūshū to Honshū.

The station is a huge building complex which contains a subway station, a train station, a bus station and the Shinkansen port of Fukuoka city, making it the beating heart of the railway system.

In Addition, with AMU plaza and the new OIOI center which was finished in 2016, the Hakata station complex features two huge malls which offer endless shopping and eating possibilities on 8 and 12 floors. The malls, shops and stations are all connected so you can reach everything starting from anywhere. Hakata station features a big and modern cinema as well, overall a perfect place to spend a rainy day at.
Another thing you might wanna visit this month is the Hakata Christmas market in front of the station, check out our article for more details !
