And here comes another Intern from Kyushu Gaigo College. Lucie C. from France tells us about her experiences with adult language learners.

Why did you choose Asahi Nihongo?
I was looking for Japanese English school all over Japan and wanted to go to another place than Tokyo. Asahi Nihongo had the most companies with very detailed company information, so I chose it for my internship.

Why did you pick this internship?
I want to become a teacher in the future. That’s why I thought such an internship would be a great experience.

What were your tasks?
In the morning I normally look after smaller children, talk to them in English and help them with their English homework. But in the afternoon I have my conversation class with adult students, which are also held in English.

Were there any (cultural) problems you had to overcome during your internship?
There were no real surprises or problems, because I have lived in Japan for a while.

What do you like the most about your internship?
The conversation class with only one adult student is the thing I can enjoy the most. I can concentrate one the student and teach a lot.

And how do you like Fukuoka?
Fukuoka has a nice climate and is not so polluted. The people are also very nice and more spontaneous than the one in Tokyo. In addition, there many interesting and unique place in Kyushu which are different to the rest of Japan.

Do you have any tips or recommendations for people who might want to do an internship?
If you are not used to Japan’s hot weather you should not do an internship in summer. Because of the summer school there are also less students than usual. Besides, I think you should learn about the Japanese language and Japanese customs before you come to Japan.
