Today we make a trip to Kumamoto City to see its main attraction – Kumamoto Castle.
The castle was built in 1467 and is said to be one of the most impressive castles in Japan.
After the keep burnt down in 1877, it was reconstructed in 1960 and has been standing to this day.
Besides the two towers of the castle, you can also visit the reconstructed Honmaru Goten Palace, which was opened in 2008. This palace originally included the residence of the Daimyo, but today’s reconstruction is smaller than the original and it is not possible to see residence itself.
The castle is easily accessible from Kumamoto Station taking only ten minutes on foot.
Entrance fee is 500 Yen for adults.
The next Asahi School Kumamoto Tour is planned for 14 February. You can check the Activity Board in our school lobby to get exact information.
