O-musubi (御結び) means rice ball and can also be translated as “connection”. On January 17th – the day of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake – victims who were desperately looking for food were provided rice balls by volunteers. The experience of this earthquake triggered the “national movement to eat rice” campaign. “Musubi no Hi” was introduced by the National Movement Promotion Council in 2000. Let’s eat rice together to remember its importance in daily life and the good will of all volunteers!
