Yuki from Canada talks about her business internship at Nippon Tsusho in Fukuoka.

Why do you like Japan?
I have lived in Japan before and most of my friends are either Japanese or live in Japan. I am also interested in Japan’s culture, and I love the language.

How do you like Fukuoka and what do you recommend others to do here?
Fukuoka is less of a jump compared to if you went to Tokyo. It is very liveable and it is easy to get around. I enjoy living here.

Why did you choose Asahi School?
I trusted them to do a good job at supporting my internship and my trust paid off.
From the start, I was set on doing my internship in Fukuoka. Thankfully, Asahi is located right in the heart of the city, and I thought that they would be perfect for assisting me through my time here.

Why have you decided to do your internship in Japan?
I wanted to broaden my views of the world and gain more experience as a human being.

How long is the internship? What are your working hours?
I work 5 days a week from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

What are your main tasks at Nippon Tsusho?
I am tasked with expanding the company’s market internationally, so I will translate documents, communicate with foreign agents, as well as find possible candidates.

What do you like the most about your internship?
I enjoy talking to my colleagues and getting to know them better while doing something meaningful for the company.

Were there any (cultural) problems?
Not really as I have lived in Japan before.

Do you have any advice for people who want to do an internship in Japan?
I think you should just go for it, it might be what you expect or what you don’t expect but you wouldn’t know if you don’t try.
