Kansai Area’s Round Creation – Takoyaki








Today, we introduce a classic Japanese snack – Takoyaki (たこ焼き). This dish is extremely popular all over the country and due to its simple recipe, it can be cooked at home and eaten on the go, making it a good snack for business people and students during breaks.
Takoyaki is ball-shaped, made out of flour and is cooked in a special molded pan. It is typically filled with octopus, ginger and green onion. In the end, it is topped with a special Takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, green laver, and fish flakes.
Takoyaki was created and popularized in the Kansai region in 1935. The delicious Takoyaki was such a success that it spread from Kansai to the Kantō region and other areas of Japan. Takoyaki is associated with Yatai stalls, and there are many well-established Takoyaki restaurants, particularly in Kansai. Today, Takoyaki is sold at stores, supermarkets, and convenience stores.
